Welcome to
Radmila Hardi's website!

I graduated from the Nursing School in Belgrade in 1970 and spent the
next twelve years in Austria where I had a successful career in Intensive
Care and Rehabilitation Nursing. While I fully enjoyed the cultural life of
Vienna I also traveled widely in Europe and overseas.

Since arriving here I traveled all over Australia deepening my love for this country and the light and colours of the landscape.
  • In 1984/85 I studied oil painting at CAE with Anna Minardo and John Yule.
  • In 1997 I started lessons in drawing and watercolour with Heike Effler (4 years).
  • In 2001 I studied with both, Greg Allen watercolour and Lorraine Wiggraft pastels. Much of my art education I owe to so many artists who shared their knowledge through their books, workshops and demonstrations.

For several years now I have been painting in pastels exclusively. I like to experiment with different surfaces as well as varying the technique of pastel application. I am captivated by the vibrancy and versatility of the medium.

In August 2006 I had my first solo exhibition of pastels only. Since then I've been painting in oils and gouche as well.
After experimenting with a few oil painting techniques I have found preference for the Old Masters technique with the monochrome underpainting and glazing with colour.

Still life, sea and landscapes and portraites are some of my favoured subjects.

In my still life paintings I often apply the chiarro scuro technique (painting dark in order to show the light). The light is what fascinates us all. It is life!

To be the work of art a painting needs to have a mood which is also the connection between the artist and the viewer.

I have demonstrated pastel painting during the HAS Annual Exhibitions and Open Days, Malvern Art Society Open Day at Malvern Town Hall, Glen Eira Art Group. In 2005 I was invited to exhibit at the prestigeous biannual Scotch College Art Show.

I am Signatory Member of the Victorian Artists Society and exhibiting member of the  Australian Guild of Realist Artists and the Pastel Society of Victoria.

Currently I am on the Council of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and have been a Committee member of the Hawthorn Artists Society for several years.
